Forecast: Finally got there.
It’s been a while, and I have so many songs that have been holding out on. Anyhoo, here’s a big batch of them all released last year (and in the first few weeks of this year). Some are not new recordings but newly released on recent albums. We start with a couple of “Let’s Get” songs. Hope songs about getting there, Chrissie about getting lost. The Tyde’s newest seems to be paying tribute to Scott Walker, at least cover-wise, and the song takes a step up when producer Bernard Butler joins on harmonies. Ebbot Lundberg makes sure your life is still being sontracked with his latest project, followed by a really fresh drop by Foxygen. It starts to get a bit funky with Back Stabbers by Elvis C. from the HBO show vinyl. Jimi Hill’s Guessing Game is clearly not a new recording but comes from last year’s from stellar archivists Numero Group’s “Afterschool Special” comp. The Avalanches returned last year with Because I’m Me and a video that is worth seeking out. Next we have a mashup of Steely Dan and Danzig and two more covers. The Afghan Whig’s Regret comes from their 20th anniversary edition of “Black Love”. Lambchop pays tribute to the well missed Prince. The xx had a new album and Say Something Loving is maybe their best. Drugdealer’s Suddenly is brought to life by Weyes Blood. Cosines then explain chaos theory. Deaf School was one of my fave bands in my youth and it is great to see that Clive Langer is still producing, now as The Clang Group. Close Lobsters and pete Astor were also faves (of my a little less young) self and it is equally rewarding to see that they had a new releases last year. The Shack’s No Surprise was a surpirise to me. Hooton Tennis Club released their sophomore effort and it was not disappointing. A duet of covers (VU, The Misfits) by a couple of duets. The Delgados are long gone, but Emma Pollock showed up with Parks & Recreation. I wasn’t familiar with Carter Tanton but came to Twentynine Palms because of Sharon Van Etten. Then the podcast ends, but it doesn’t because we go to what may just be the first posthumous release the departed Mr. Bowie.
